"The goat. It sounds amazing. Local pickup only. The faceplate is in gorgeous shape. the wood is in great shape with a little scuffing. Lid and outer shell has some scuffing. No legs or pedals. Local pickup only. Come try it out and be amazed beyond words.

Works perfectly. A few buttons are a touch sticky. Memory 3 button sticks and has to be gently worked back up. I have included a demo putting this through its paces."

Never heard it called the goat before. Somone once referred to the Korg Maxi Korg 800DV as the goat. You can find a handful of goat posts here.

#Jamuary2020 Day 6: Shine on crazy Diamond (free interpretation with MicroFreak)

Published on Jan 5, 2020 VolcaNiced

See the Synthuary label for more. Synthuary because these are the Jamuary synth videos. More below.

"I love this Song.

I remember myself walking thru a park in my hometown Frankfurt years ago and found some Vinyl Records in a bush. One of this vinyls was "Animals" in Pink and "Wish you where here". I was 19 and had no clue what the hack Pink Floyd is. So I put the record on the player and then I was .... infected. Man, that moment first time hearing their music wihtout knowing who they are was unbelievable.

So in tribut to that great moment I am playing some leads from this great Song "Shine on crazy Diamond". Thanks @Waveformer for your influence on this with his video here: https://youtu.be/1OAETuz_8uM

Unfortunately I didnt own the Monologue so I had to build this Lead patch with the Microfreak. This took me about 2 hrs to get this. And it is still not perfect.

The backround sound comes from the Ipad and the App #DigitalD1 from @AudioKit. One of the best apps I own on the Ipad by the way. I build this sound with the PCM Moduls "Epic Pad" and "Glory Organ" and a little bit of tuning.

Enjoy the short trip into the 70th and dont be to sensitive with the mistakes I did. It's #Jamuary2020. Let's do music."

Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator - Lunch break Jam

Published on Mar 16, 2016 Matt Greer

"Teenage Engineering PO-12 Rhythm, PO-20 Arcade & PO-28 Robot with a Korg KP-mini doing a live improvisational synth jam.

Hi Gang,

This is more of an experiment really but it's the first of a series of recordings I'll be doing during my lunch breaks. You see, I started a new diet and I'm not going out for lunch anymore so I have some free time. This was the first test run to see how things would go.

I'm building a larger, all battery powered mini-studio that will fit inside an aluminum case. It will use my Novation Circuit, Pocket Operators, Volca Keys, a couple guitar pedals and a battery powered mixer recording into the trusty DR-05. BUT.. I haven't finished building that yet so this was just a mess around with the PO's.

Don't expect anything magical here. I'm just messing around and I've found this particular signal chain seems to introduce a lot of noise. It'll be better when I split the sync off and send the audio for the PO's into the mixer individually.

Thanks for watching.

Kyma International Sound Symposium (KISS2011) Portugal

"EXPLORING SOUND SPACE | EXPLORANDO O ESPAÇO DO SOM

Kyma International Sound Symposium (KISS2011): 15-18 September 2011 in Porto Portugal

July 14, 2011 -- Can sound define a space? In sound, is there a Point-of-View or culturally-influenced focus of attention? Sound designers, musicians, audio engineers, composers, acousticians and others interested in "sound space" are invited to discuss these and other questions during the third annual Kyma International Sound Symposium (KISS2011), scheduled for 15-18 September 2011 in Porto, Portugal.

Inspired by Portugal's proud history of navigators who set out to explore beyond the known and visible horizon, the theme of this year's symposium is "Explorando o espaço do som" ("Exploring Sound Space") and will celebrate the sound designers, composers and researchers who are exploring beyond the familiar horizons in sound and music. Set in the nautically-inspired Casa Da Musica, architect Rem Koolhaas' dramatic new music venue in Porto, the symposium promises four intensive days of workshops, keynotes, technical talks, films and live performances.

To cite just a few highlights:

* A mathematician and co-editor of a new book on the Sonic Spaces of Music (Spazi sonori della musica) will discuss the public space defining and defined by the sounds of the Trevi Fountain in Rome;
* Kyma practitioners will have opportunities to attend master classes, participate in interactive workshops and consulting sessions, and most importantly, to make connections with and to learn from fellow Kyma practitioners;
* The author of a new text for teaching and learning Kyma (published in both English and Chinese) will describe his search for the SumOfSines disco club;
* Plus there will be an abundance of technical talks on a wide range of topics including how to use the spectrum of a sound as a sequencer; techniques for data sonification; using sound to help people confront pain; how to create a dynamic sonic ecology; using context-free-grammars to simultaneously generate dance movements and trajectories through abstract timbre space; techniques for spectral modification & morphing; and more.

Evening performances are to include a screening of the very first science fiction film accompanied by a live-improvised electronic sound track generated by Kyma reconstructions of Luigi Russolo's intonorumori instruments; a portion of an audio documentary on Holocaust survivor Ksenija Drobac; and a live-generated audio/video film about Galileo that uses Kyma to control VJ software via Open Sound Control (OSC). Other live musical performances will create sound spaces controlled by (among other things) dancers, RFID cards held by the audience, iPads, Wacom tablets, video position trackers, Continuum fingerboards, SoftStep pedal-boards, OSC, acoustic instruments, the acoustics of the room itself, and even a sensor-enhanced Teddy Bear!

For more details on the program, please see: http://kiss2011.symbolicsound.com/program and join the mailing list to be kept up to date on future enhancements and additions.

SQ8L - Free Virtual Ensoniq SQ80

"There IS such a thing as a Free Lunch!

Rarely has the 'you get what you pay for' concept been more wrong than in the case of the absolutely free SQ8L VST instrument from Synthmiester Siegfried Kullmann. If you would have told me 20 years ago that someday an IBM-compatible PC would be able to run a spot-on software-based clone of the SQ80, I would have said 'yeah right, and Weird Al Yankovic will have a number one album and Battlestar Galactica will be an acclaimed series.'"

You can find it here and a couple of vids that mentioned the SQ8L here and here.
via khoral where you'll find a track titled Ambrosia featuring the SQ8L.

Synth Stories

A thread by Ralph of insidemyOSCar went up on the Analogue Heaven mailing list asking people to share their funny synth stories. Here are my two entries, followed by a funny one from customsynth.co.uk. If you have any feel free to send them in and I'll update this post. I'll also add this to the More Stuff section towards the bottom right of the site.

My stories:
Several years back I went to Maui. I set my wife up with expectations that we would hit every single pawn shop while there. We never got around to it until the last day when we were partially sunburnt and just plain beat. I convince my wife to trek around the island. Over two hours of hitting pawn shops with nothing but jewelry we give up. On the way back to the hotel I see one. I ask her if we can go in and she says hell no. I then see a Taco Bell right next to it and realize its about lunch time and we are pretty hungry. I say how about Taco Bell? :) I manage to get us a quick look in the pawn shop and sitting in the back I see a beige drum machine. I think, no, it can't be. I'm thinking it's probably just a TR-707, but when I get up to it, it's the 909. I pick it up and aside from being dusty it's in prestine condition. I see a few amps and ask if I can try it out. They go searching for a cable for about 15 minutes and can't find one. I'm thinking maybe it's busted, but I look for a price and see a little sticker on it. 220, no $. I think, no way... that can't be the price. I ask someone and it happens to be the owner of the shop. I shout accross the room "is 220 the price?!" The response? Oh, I can take $30 off of it! I whip out my credit card. Cash only. I have no cash. I ask him if there is an ATM near by. He says there's one accross the street, but he's closing shop as he has a movie to catch. He suggests the next day, but my plane leaves before they open. I ask him to give me five minutes. I run accross the street (think hwy/mini freeway), get the cash and run back. I get back and I see him locking up the doors. I get that sinking feeling in my stomach. He turns around and he has the 909! I pay for it and head back to the hotel. It's in pristine condition both cosmetically and functionally.

Another story, this one short. I went to a local guitar center and they had a Pro-One sitting there. I ask them if I can try it out and the guy says yes but it's broken - one note just hangs. Their tech looked at it and couldn't figure it out. I buy it for $125, take it home, open it up and bend a j-wire so it isn't in constant contact with the bar. Worked perfectly after that. :)

Steve Scuilli - Hartmann Neuron Live

"Musician Steve Sciulli will perform on the Hartmann Neuron - a very rare electronic synthesizer on Tuesday, Nov 18th at Your Inner Vagabond. This is part of "Electric Larryville" the monthly series that "showcases the most innovative electronica that Pittsburgh has to offer."

Also performing will be Bureau of Nonstandards and from Black Moth Super Rainbow Power Pill Fist
Start time is 8pm and goes until 11:30. This is an all age show and is FREE. Your Inner Vagabond is located at 4130 Butler Street, Pittsburgh. Phone: 412-6831623

The Hartmann Neuron uses a form of Artificial Intelligence and memory recognition as it develops its binaural soundscapes. It builds internal neuronic networks that offers 3 dimensional sound choices. All in glorious 5.1 surround sound! This blends perfectly with Steve's core philosophy of connecting the sacred with leading edge technologies. "These are all steps in our evolutionary journey". Steve is excited to be premiering his new instrument at Your Inner Vagabond on Nov 18th.

The Neuron was designed and built by the German designer Axel Hartmann. Around 500 of these instruments were build. This just might be the first time that this boundary breaking musical instrument is played in the Pittsburgh region. Steve will also be utilizing the Akai EWI 4000s wind synthesizer for this show.

Steve Sciulli – Musician and ambient music pioneer. Steve built his first synthesizer at the age of 10 and started the flute at 14. Founding member of the early 1980's progressive group "Carsickness" (which Trouser Press compared to Van der Graaf Generator) and the Celtic rock band "Ploughman's Lunch" along with numerous other regional and national touring musical groups.
